Shape of the heart.

Hey, babe…

While I was out jogging this morning, trying hard to shape my body for you

(…not just… to look as good as I can for you, but to last… to do as much as I can to make sure I'm here, for you, for as long as I possibly can be…)

I was thinking…

I've also been working hard to shape my heart for you.

Oh, I think the basic layout was already there — that's why it's always felt so good, so natural between us…

But, I'm not perfect… I never will be.
But I can be better. I can always be better.

Because the truth is, whether you've known it or not… your heart has had a home within mine for… a long time. A very long time.

And what I want, more than anything else in this whole entire world… 
Is for it to be comfortable for you. Safe. I've been sanding down any sharp edges… not to change the shape (been there, done that, wouldn't recommend) but to soften, try to smooth out the splinters.

But I know that's not just something I can say.
I've got to show you.
And I will.

I've said before that I know I have to earn it — and I intend to. Every single day.

In the meantime, babe…
I sometimes wonder…

If I found us a space — or built us one — free of the noise and the clutter… 
and handed you the key…

PS — Just added you to my vinyl collection… my favorite color and everything. Autographed, to boot. Downside to the streaming music era… I hadn't even noticed that one album title until last night… So when you showed up — homophonetically, at any rate — I knew it was meant to be in our collection. Ain't got no money, but I found a way…
