Sorry 'bout them blue sneakers…

There's a movie, maybe you've seen… it hits me right smack in every one of my nerdy bones — set in modern times, no spaceships zipping around, no mythical creatures, just some good-old social engineering and human tension. Gotta be honest, it's one of my all-time favorites. I think what I like about it so much is, aside from some nonsense surrounding the McGuffin, it's an almost ridiculously realistic portrayal of the subject matter — while still being fun and super engaging. Very rare, especially for nerdy movies.
Funny story about it, though, that you prolly don't wanna hear, but I'm gonna tell it anyway. First time I saw it? I didn't really see it. Went with a girl, a cute little blonde a grade below me — gray eyes and the sweetest freckles on her nose. We paid zero attention to the movie. Oh, none of the sorts of shenanigans I've recently had placed into my mind… we were young, we never made it past first base. And we didn't last, either… a couple of weeks, maybe? A month? Turned out, nerdy as she was (I met her at a BBS gathering — yeah, look that up if you wanna know the level of nerdy you're getting into…), there really wasn't any kind of connection beyond the physical. And even back then, I wasn't down for that. Anyways.
I was reminded recently, though, of a key quote from that movie…
Hi, my name is Werner Brandes. My voice is my passport. Verify me.
I guess it's probably not too much of a spoiler to say… access was granted.
Anyways… Maybe, if you haven't seen it, one day we can cuddle up on a couch and I can share it with you… maybe… we'll even pay more attention than I did the first time I saw it — I mean, after all, we'll have one of those stained-glass surrounded beds to retreat to afterwards, right? But, heck… while we're at it, do you know that I've never seen Sabrina? Might be an odd pairing, but I never did mind a double feature…
Love you, babes.
Yours.
